Our Background

The Choir began life in 1989 as an Adult Education Class of 15 members, taking its name from The Sir Joshua Reynolds Centre in Plympton St. Maurice where it met.

Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, increasing in size (average 50 members) and status, under the capable direction of Jenny George, who stepped down in July 2025. Phillip took over the direction of the choir in September 2025 and has introduced the choir to some new repertoire, some challenging and some familiar. He is ably assisted by accompanist Anne Kalas.

In a conscious and successful effort to attract wider audiences and new members, a rebranding has taken place giving rise to 'Plym Valley Voices'. They no longer concentrate on presenting solely choral and other kindred works but rather a wide array of music. It now gives a series of three different programmes every year.
